Preventing Suicide Among People Aged 14 and Over : Raising Hope and Estimating Danger

At the end of this of this training, the participant will be able to estimate the dangerousness of a suicidal act while having raised hope in the exploration of the criteria of danger, and to apply the required safety measures.

Target audience

This training is aimed at caseworkers and professionnals who are responsible for assessing the dangerousness of suicidal acts in their work with people aged 14 and over, regardless of their practice setting.

Post-training Workshop to Consolidate Learning to Intervene with a Person Aged 14 and Over With Suicidal Thoughts

Training goals :

– A look back at the main concepts covered in the training course Preventing Suicide Among People Aged 14 ans Over : Raising Hope and Estimating Danger.

– Role-playing, reflection and in-depth discussion of emotional and clinical issues.

– Clinical situations should preferably come from the customer and be provided prior to training. If necessary, JEVI will provide clinical cases.

Identifying Individuals Vulnerable to Suicide and Enforcing Required Protection Measures

In keeping with Best Practices for Responding to a Suicidal Person, this workshop helps counsellors identify individuals vulnerable to suicide so they can make an informed decision before establishing appropriate protection measures while waiting for a full intervention, if applicable.

Suicide Prevention in Seniors: Recognizing, Protecting and Giving New Hope

This training workshop is a version of the Identifying Individuals Vulnerable to Suicide and Enforcing Required Protection Measures workshop. It is intended more specifically for people who work closely with seniors but are not responsible for assessing the danger of individuals dying by suicide.

Postvention Program: Being Ready to Respond After a Suicide

Postvention refers to all the interventions carried out after a suicide in the community/workplace where the suicide occurred or where the deceased lived. This program’s main objectives are to:

– Reduce the risks of a copycat effect in the community

– Lessen people’s grief

– Increase the sens of sagety in the community

– Strengthen individuals’ capacity to face adversity

– Encourage a return to normal in the community/workplace

Intervening with Children Aged 5–13 at Risk of Suicide

The purpose of this training workshop is to develop specific skills for carrying out a complete intervention for children aged 13 and under who are at risk of suicide, and their network. Counsellors will be able to understand suicide in children, adopt an appropriate response to children aged 5–13 at risk of suicide, apply the three cross-cutting dimensions to an intervention with this age group, identify manifestations associated with suicide in children aged 5–13 at risk of suicide and apply a best-practice-based clinical process.
