Our philosophy and values give meaning to the work of our team members. They guide and inspire us in carrying out our mission and help us to stay focused on the concept of individual recovery, a key part of suicide prevention.
We firmly believe that every individual has the necessary personal resources for getting through tough times.
As a result, we rely on each person’s strengths and potential when we accompany them through these times of turmoil.
JEVI is a community organization whose mission is to promote a better life and suicide prevention to the people in the seven Eastern Townships territories it serves.
Eager to offer a range of suicide-related services, JEVI focuses on the four widely recognized areas of action: promotion, prevention, intervention, and postvention.
Over the years, our organization has been able to develop a diverse range of services that meet the realities and needs of the clients being served. Our suicide prevention expertise is widely recognized and goes beyond the boundaries of our region.
More than anything else, JEVI is a team of workers motivated by a tremendous spirit of collaboration and constant concern to offer high-quality services. Therefore, the following values are considered crucial for accomplishing our objectives:
Respect, professionalism, confidentiality, honesty, mutual trust, solidarity, synergy, and transparency.
As well, like all Quebec suicide prevention centres, we share the following basic values:
Everyone has the right to life and to help. Therefore, every employee has the duty and obligation to help and do everything in their power to preserve the life of anyone who is suicidal and also undertake to accompany and support empathetically the loved ones of a suicidal person and people grieving a suicide.
Commitment refers both to the ability to create a favourable context for making suicide prevention choices together and being an involved, influential member of the suicide prevention network.
All humans should be appreciated for who they are, with complete dignity. Human dignity is the principle whereby a person should never be treated as an object or a resource, but rather as an intrinsic entity. They deserve unconditional respect, regardless of age, gender, physical or mental health, social condition, religion, or ethnic origin.
